...based on the following comment from Dr. D.W. Webb (INHS): "The only species of
Boreus
listed from Utah in Norm Penny's catalogue of World Mecoptera is
B. coloradensis
Byer 1955. I do not have a copy of his revision of
Boreus
on hand but I doubt that species can be identified from a simple habitus photo."

these guys are usually seen walking on snow when most bug aficionados are deeply in the state of hibernation
