Male and Female Green Bottle Flies - Lucilia sericata - male - female

Male and Female Green Bottle Flies - Lucilia sericata - Male Female
San Ramon, California, USA
October 26, 2005
Is this a Lucilla species Blow Fly, and just the male and female together, or is it something else? Thanks a lot!

Blow flies
These look like Lucilia (= Phaenicia) to me...but I'd have to key them out to tell you for sure. They sure are pretty. The females have a large gap between the eyes; the males have eyes much closer together or almost touching. If you want to send me some, I'd be happy to ID them! These are forensically important flies, BTW!
