Syrphid Fly - Toxomerus geminatus - female

Syrphid Fly - Toxomerus geminatus - Female

Perhaps a male Toxomerus marginatus?

Moved
Moved from Syrphid Flies.

About sex....
...eyes appear to be touching = Male, correct? Cool fly, BTW. I keep hoping to see another species in Genus Toxomerus other than T. marginatus, one of my favorites!

This is female
Eyes touch top front on male, plus abdomen is different.

Yes, clearly a female...
I see his point though about the eyes appearing to touch. They come pretty close, but do not.

Nice fly.
Toxomerus geminatus; note "keyholes" on back. Male of this species has a different abdomen shape than does T. marginatus. Yours is a lady.

Eye See It Now
I was just looking at the pattern each side of the "keyholes" and not the abdomen shape. Now I know, for now. As for gender, to the untrained eye, eyes appeared to be touching. Too bad I didn't see one in September. Then the year would be complete. As always, thank you for your help.

My pleasure, Robert.
I do enjoy those syrphids. Keep posting!
