golden robber fly - Laphria - female

golden robber fly - Laphria - Female
London, Middlesex, Ontario, Canada
June 14, 2004
Size: about 15 mm
On shrub at edge of woods.

Moved
Moved from / aktis complex.

Laphria
Takes us into that L aktis/sericea pair again. Separable (sometimes) by the facial hair color. I think both may range in Ontario. I like this shot. Looks female.

Thanks, Herschel
A search for Laphria in the "species name" box on this page returned 11 species, including sericea but not aktis. (Asilids are the only flies listed in the Ontario database, as far as I know). Moved to sericea page for now.
