Cicadellidae, dorsal - Latalus sayii

Cicadellidae, dorsal - Latalus sayii
Iowa, USA
Size: 3 mm
Unfortunately I caught it alive, October 12, 2009, inside my pick-up truck, more than a month after I had been collecting on hill prairie remnants in NE Iowa.

Date
Perhaps it would be better to remove the date from the data field and mention it only in the text. You don't really know when it was still alive and at its home.

Your call
but I did catch it alive in the pickup on October 12.

Oh!
I see now.

Except
I don't know anything about their requirements for life and I think 5 weeks is a long time to survive without any necessities. So I am perplexed (pretty much pertetual state for me).

You are not the only one
Apparently very little is known about what these creatures feed on, other than leaf hoppers feed on plant sap. A little googling shows that members of this genus feed on grasses (that is something).
