CDFA is releasing sterile Med
CDFA is releasing sterile Medfly in the area for control purposes. If you place the specimen under blacklight you should see a brightly colored dye. In fact in this picture I believe I can make out a few specks of dye on the body under the wing.

 
bright orange specs
Yes, there are some brilliant orange tiny dots on the side of the thorax just under where the wing attaches. These pics were taken quite a while ago. My date might be a bit off too.

 
They've been releasing steril
They've been releasing sterile flies for years in the Los Angeles Basin. Its an ongoing battle to keep Mediterranean Fruit Fly from becoming established.
