Pine-cone Willow Gall Midges on Salix eriochepala - Rabdophaga strobiloides

Size: 1-2 mm, probably
There were several tiny lively midges inside, each in its one groove, probably; in this photo I captured only 2 and by then they had moved away from their feeding area. Compare with empty galls found late April
