Terrible photos. But I thought maybe the overall shape, convex on both dorsal and ventral, the little structures at the base of the eyes and the short fringe on both edges of the wings might help. I could not gently nudge the antennae or the legs away from the body so can't say anything about them. I ened up destroying the little beetle in the process of trying to see it better.
I can't say for sure which state, Iowa or Minnesota, it came from or what date (summer 2009). I found it in one of my rearing jars which had sunflowers from the 2 states, added at various dates.
