Ptenothrix renateae - female

Ptenothrix renateae - Female
Montrose, Laurens County, Georgia, USA
December 13, 2009
Size: approx. 5mm
Well, this one's got me. It has characteristics of an ant with "dazzle paint" (like WWII transport ships in the Atlantic). Someone has just *got* to know what this is.

very cool!
The pattern on it almost looks artificial. Great pic.

After getting the shot
up on the monitor, I almost thought it was a nano-bot, it had such a man-made look. Evolution takes some odd turns at times.

Collembola
Sminthuridae (or thereabouts--not up-to-date with springtail taxonomy)

So, that's what
I see a lot of times, swoop in for a quickie shot, watch them pop off never to be seen again. Thanks, Blaine!
