along Highland Lakes Road, about halfway between lakes and Hwy 4, Alpine County, California, USA

I think this was around 5mm... On fungus underneath a rotting log.

. The same image appears on the SBMNH site correctly labeled
here
.
Also I did check the Essig collection and my
Mycetophagus
is definitely
californicus
. The
M. pluriguttatus
specimens look like the one you link to.
