Moved from Tibicen. Thanks, Mr. or Dr. Reynolds, for the ID and info, and thanks, Dr. Hamilton, for looking at the images. You've helped me on many others.

Tibicen pruinosus (FEMALE)
This species is widely distributed across the Southeast, Midwest and eastern portions of the Great Plains. I have observed and collected pruinosus in and around Houston (Harris Co., TX) where it can be very abundant.

The richly colored patterns incorporating leaf greens, reddish-browns, and blacks are seen in several species including T. pruinosus; however, it's the large paired pruinose spots at the base of the abdomen that are often diagnostic and particularly pronounced in the females,... though subject to variation. This species is most often confused with several related taxa including T. resh, T. linnei, T. canicularis, T. robinsonianus, and T. winnemana (the latter its closest relative).
