Florida Blue Centipede - Hemiscolopendra marginata

Florida Blue Centipede - Hemiscolopendra marginata
Daphne, Baldwin County, Alabama, USA
December 15, 2009
So cool to watch this creature move. It looks like a Chinese dragon. Reasonably sure this is a Tiger Centipede Scolopendra polymorpha, although distribution suggests west coast. It doesn't look like any of the southern species I saw. ID confirmation, please. Thanks

Thanks, Sara. I don't normally see or photo centipedes, but this one was so beautiful. I see in your referenced specimen was also thought to be a Scolopendra.

Moved from Centipedes.

I'm no expert, but as no one has commented on this in over a year...

How about Hemiscolopendra marginata?

bugguide has records from FL, GA, TN and TX, so Alabama seems plausable.

Yours has the stout, reddish forcipules, blueish antennae, light legs, dark back, and stout, orange-brown final pair of legs of the other identified specimines.
