Western Conifer Seed Bug, I believe -
compare and see info page in guide.
Box Elder bug (here in guide)is quite different-looking but also invades houses in fall - I wonder if that's the reason for your question?
We don't have record of this for Montana yet, and this is a nice shot. You can tag your image (below picture), navigate to the species image page here, and move your picture there (select "move tagged images"). By the way, I believe you mean 20mm or 2 cm for size - your ruler is confusingly marked, but mm would be the smallest divisions it shows, I think.
Welcome to BugGuide! I hope we'll see more from you - Montana is not very well represented here yet.

Thanks for your corrections w
Thanks for your corrections with the measurement. I intended to type cm but must have been distracted by the ruler in the picture.

I didn't think it was a boxelder bug but the most common answer I recieved when asking the locals was "I think it is a Boxelder Bug."

During the last few weeks of October (deciduous leaves yellow and red and just ready to fall from the trees) I found 4 or 5 of these insects in our building on the second floor.

Thanks Again!

Grins,
Joel
