Identification
Packer, L. (1998) determined these to be two separate species (Previously only H. ligatus was considered valid). They are best separated based on range OR DNA sequence data in areas of sympatry.
Remarks
Known to be a species complex, likely to be split further in the future. The most distinctive "cryptic" forms are Mexican.
