Caterpillars - Rheumaptera prunivorata

Caterpillars - Rheumaptera prunivorata
Harvard, Worcester County, Massachusetts, USA
September 4, 2004
The small caterpillars have identical markings as the large one. It looks like this one doesn't change appearances with the different instars.
Found in a rolled up leaf (can't remember what kind).

What do you think of
Cherry scallop shell, Rheumaptera prunivorata, Wagner pg 209. even mentions gregarious habit.

You got it!!
Wagner says that it's the only eastern inchworm that's gregarious, and the description fits to a tee. I looked through the book tons of times, and never saw it. Thanks again.
