The new genus Melacoryphus is described for Neacoryphus lateralis (Dallas) and related species. In addition to lateralis the following species are transferred from Neacoryphus to Melacoryphus: admirabilis (Uhler), circumlitus (Stål), facetus (Say), nigrinervis (Stål), pedregalensis (Brailovsky), rubicollis (Uhler) and rubriger (Stål).
