reaching the end of her year. The shriveled abdomen probably indicates she has left behind an egg case to carry on the species next year.

Well, the dead leaves, the diminished spider, the words shriveled and left behind . . . just kinda' makes me feel the inexorable passage of time as we leave the old year behind. sniff
