Size: ~1 1/4"
Have had this one in my files since 2006. Can't remember now where I came up with the name. Pretty embarrassing.

Note correction of location. Was thinking of Stovepipe Wells, wrote down something else. Was on return from dunes to parking area. b

Genus Ophryastes
Looks like to me.
Definitely a Broad-nosed Weevil, Subfamily Entiminae.
Maybe it's Ophryastes mixtus, pic from Death Valley

If you feel the need to move this picture immediately...
...I'd suggest moving to Beetles and leaving it there a few weeks. If no action, it could be moved to subfamily (Entiminae), or genus if you're confident in that ID.

I think our best best for a species ID on this one may come from Charles O'Brien. It's quite possible that =v= is already aware of this image and will take care of contacting him for his assessment.

That's not my way. I'm the opposite of this when it comes to ID Request.
Just seeing what the best option is on this one, keeping things flowing. It's a great picture, a good one for the guide.
