Barberpole grasshopper - Dactylotum bicolor - female

Barberpole grasshopper - Dactylotum bicolor - Female
Devil's Backbone Open Space, Larimer County, Colorado, USA
August 2, 2009

Only one species looks like this.
"Barber Pole" is one name, "Rainbow" another, "Uncle Sam" yet another, and there are likely lots of others too. This one tends to get a lot of attention.

However, this one is a female, so I suppose maybe it's "Aunt Samantha" ??? :o)

Moved from Grasshoppers, Crickets, Katydids.

Rainbow Grasshopper?
It looks a lot like this one, but wait for a second opinion.

Same area
Devil's Backbone is on basically the SW side of Fort Collins.
