Explanation of Names

Specific epithet for the host plant genus.

Size

Forewing length 4.3-6.0 mm. (2)

Wingspan 9-10 mm. (1)

Mature larva to 7.5 mm. (1)

Identification

Adult - dark gray to black, dorsal half tinged with dark reddish. (2)

Range

California, from the Coast Range foothills around San Francisco Bay and the coastal areas to Los Angeles county and the Channel Islands. (2)

Holotype male: Crystal Lakes, San Mateo County, California, larva collected July 4, 1928 (Keifer).

Food

Larvae feed of chamise (Adenostoma fasciculatum) in spring. (2)
