Bess Beetle - Odontotaenius disjunctus

Large beetle found under a dead log in my woods. I didn't get a measurement, but it was ~4cm long. There's a tiny bug of some sort on the left side of the beetle between the pronotum and the elytra that I only noticed while reviewing the photo.

Passalid
Looks like a Passalid of some sort. These are big beetles associated with rotting wood. The tiny bug was likely a mite:.
Perhaps this is the species?

I agree
I agree that this is the species; Nearctica.com seems to prefer the name Popilius disjunctus.

This family has only three species in two genera. Popilius disjunctus is one, and there are also two species in genus Passalus. The later genus is not represented in BugGuide yet.
