oak-slug cat - Euclea delphinii

oak-slug cat - Euclea delphinii
Okeechobee County, Florida, USA
September 11, 2009
Surely the same species as the Euclea adults I've found at same location (see BG photo #364175). Info for Euclea indicates neither cats nor adults of delphinii and nanina can be reliably distinguished based on appearances, but can location--central south FL--eliminate either? I'd appreciate any additonal/current info on separating both adults and cats of these two species.

Probably 4697 - Euclea delphinii
Has reddish markings typical of this species. The single photo that I have seen (below) of E. nanina from Texas lacks red markings. Without a date on your photos I can't judge based on that, and there might be no differences, but Heppener indicates a single month each when the adults are not flying. Delphinii adults are not listed for May while nanina adults are not listed for July in Florida. Both species occur in your area.

Thanks, Bob, for the info. So
Thanks, Bob, for the info. Sorry I left off the date, but I've now added the date (9/11/09) to my images. Considering the lack of red coloration on the nanina cat on MPG, I'll move my images to the delphinii page.
