Whirlygig Beetle - Dineutus

Captured at a nearby pond, brought home to photograph, and released.

I can't begin to tell you how fast these buggers are. This one was tough to catch and even tougher to capture with the camera.

Dineutus sp.
If you look closely, there is no visible scutellum, one of the key identifying features for the genus Dineutus. This according to "Peterson's Guide to Beetles", p.102 (1)
