Thread-Legged Assassin Bug - Empicoris culiciformis

Thread-Legged Assassin Bug - Empicoris culiciformis
Enumclaw, Forested Unincorporated King County, Washington, USA
January 10, 2010
Size: BL 4-5mm
This little, skinny bug fell off the lamp and onto my desk, like a lot of bugs do at night. At first, all I could think of was a water strider or one of the skinny species of water scorpion since it had those stubby little T-rex type forearms...but upon trying to verify that in a couple field guides, I found that it wasn't quite a match. The next day, I was browsing through some of Arlo Pelegrin's youtube videos (which are really cool, by the way) and watched a very short, simple one titled "Thread-Legged Assassin Bug"! And it showed exactly what I was looking for the previous day. What a coincidence, eh!? So that is where I got my tentative ID from, but since I am only comfortable with spiders, I don't want to place it on my own. I'd rather have a heteroptera expert help me out, just in case I'm wrong. Oh, and this bug did have wings. It walked non-stop after falling from the light and would frequently flutter its wings...and eventually flew off into the shadows.

Once this is ID'd, the excess images can be frassed if need be.
