Water Mite

Water Mite
Del Norte Coast Redwoods State Park, Mill Creek Campground, Del Norte County, California, USA
August 26, 2009
In slow-moving area of creek (due to logs in water) adjacent to the bank. Photo taken 1:00 PM. Can anyone confirm whether this is a water mite or not and get a little more specific on the taxonomy?

from Dr. Heather Proctor:
"definitely a water mite, and my best guess is that it is a hygrobatid (Hygrobatoidea: Hygrobatidae), maybe the genus Atractides, but one would need a moderately close-up photo of the mite's ventral side to be sure. I think you can safely put it down as Hygrobatidae for now."
[which i did. =v=]
