Looks to me like
a Mole Cricket (Gryllotalpidae) of some kind--perhaps a young one if it was only half an inch long. Look around
here
and see what you think.
Maybe someone else will be able to give you a genus or species (or correct me if I'm wrong).

Scapteriscus abbreviatus?
found this key http://entnemdept.ufl.edu/fasulo/molecrickets/mcri0031.htm
appears to be the shortwinged mole cricket, though it is a nymph, so that's my guess based on the tibial dactyls and the "bulging abdomen."
