Black Saddlebags - Tramea lacerata - female

Black Saddlebags - Tramea lacerata - Female
Bear, New Castle County, Delaware, USA
September 18, 2009

You made us go back and check!
Thought maybe we had been too quick with our ID. But no, this is lacerata and we would suggest a female. The end of the abdomen looks quite different to us in your other image. Compare them and see what you think.

Female
I have read that males of this species are usually darker. Thanks for pointing out the abdomen difference and thanks for the second look.

Moved
Moved from Dragonflies. Yes, good call.

Thank you!
Well, I had the genus but you brought it to species. Actually, I looked at my other image and thought that it might be a different species. Apparently there is some color variation within this species. This one is also a male, correct? Thanks again!

Dragonfly
Don't know if its female or male.
