A few seconds later she landed briefly on a Desert Calico.

I definitely agree with the ID you suggested above. Keys unambiguously to P. earinus in Hall & Evenhuis(1) and both your female and male photos are in very good agreement with the detailed description of the species given on pg. 301 of that monograph. I included more details on the species info page.

Hall & Evenhuis(1) also indicate 3 specimens of P. earinus were collected near Red Rock Canyon on 4/14/62.

Glad you have the time to keep up with this. I think this is correct, though want an actual specimen.
Right now I'm nearly full time the grandfather.
Red Rock Canyon is on my spring list, and might take my grandkids along.
