ants in the house - Brachymyrmex patagonicus

ants in the house - Brachymyrmex patagonicus
Houston, Harris County, Texas, USA
November 4, 2005
Size: 5mm
This is the larger winged variety. We had both winged and non-winged ants in our bathroom (probably from the same species). Question: are these carpenter ants? Do we need to call an exterminator?

Moved from Rover ants.

Definitely not carpenter ants, which are much larger. Note the diagnostic 9-segmented antenna, visible in this image.

hmmm
i can't say for sure if you have termites or carpenter ants or neither, but in any case i'd call the exterminator!

they are neither
they look like Prenolepis imparis to me. please don't call the extermintaor- an awful killing of insects for no real reason would result.
the winged ones are queens, the smaller ones workers
