colorful caterpillar - Malacosoma tigris

colorful caterpillar - Malacosoma tigris
Littleton, Jefferson County, Colorado, USA
June 2, 2007
Interesting colorful caterpillar. Has bright blue color on it. It wasn't feeding on any particular leaves when I found it.
Also, looks like I see a couple eggs on the head, syrphid eggs maybe??

Moved from Malacosoma.

Moved from ID Request.

Syrphid Eggs ?
Are those Syrphid eggs on its head?
Thanks for ID to genus by the way. I appreciate it.

We agree with Malacosoma
Just wish we had someone who could help us sort out these western species. We don't know if there are simply lots of species, or if they are just very variable in the different instars.

Can't find an exact match,
but it reminds me of Malacosoma:

Let's see if anyone else agrees.
