Spider Egg Sac

Spider Egg Sac
Naches Trail Preserve, Pierce County, Washington, USA
January 31, 2010
Found under many of the rocks in the area. Maybe Cicurina or Cybaeus? I wonder if Rod will know? This might be a frass.

I can't quite tell from this photo...
Is this a somewhat compressed spherical fuzzball, or a flat dome/disc-shaped thing?

spherical fuzzball
covered with flat lines of webbing.

Fuzzballs
are usually Araneidae or Theridiidae, as far as I can tell. I know I've seen araneid egg sacs covered with webbing like this, and I don't remember seeing it with theridiids, but that doesn't mean it doesn't happen, of course.

Moved
Moved from Spiders.

From Rod Crawford:
I have no idea, but it's certainly an attractive shot. Maybe
you should have a section that just shows the variety of spider egg
sacs.

Size
Do you remember an approx size? It's a nice photo... maybe better in unidentified spider egg sacs rather than frass. That's just my opinion, though.

5-10 mm
Some were a little smaller, some were larger.
