Structure lover - Metazygia wittfeldae - Female
Okeechobee County, Florida, USA
March 9, 2009
This was Metazygia wittfeldae. It matched the description, illustration, and range for this species as detailed in Levi 1977 [Bulletin of the Museum of Comparative Zoology, Vol.148(3):61-127], and in Levi 1995 [Bulletin of the MCZ, Vol. 154(2):63-151]. M. wittfeldae is commonly found on human structures. The only other Metazygia in Florida, zilloides, has a light yellowish brown carapace with a dark longitudinal midline band, and a whitish abdomen--as shown by the California examples on the BG zilloides page.
