craneflyish thing - Teucholabis - female

craneflyish thing - Teucholabis - Female
Bloomington, Monroe County, Indiana, USA
May 22, 2004
Size: body 1/4-1/3"
Looked like a cranefly but smaller than I'd generally think of craneflies as being...

This one is
a species in the genus Teucholabis . Moved to its page. - Chen

Limoniid crane fly
Unlike most of the larger crane flies that belong to family Tipulidae (or subfamily Tipulinae), this small crane fly belong to family Limoniidae (or subfamily Limoniinae) and this group of crane flies has more than 13 segments in their antennae. This is one of the characters to set the two groups apart (13 segments for Tipulinae and 14-16 segments for Limoniinae). - Chen
