First moments of life outside the egg! - Steatoda grossa

First moments of life outside the egg! - Steatoda grossa
Krain, Forested Unincorporated King County, Washington, USA
January 1, 2010
Size: approx 1mm
Eggs deposited by mother: November 3, 2009
Larva emerge from eggs: January 1, 2010
Spiderlings emerge from silken sac: January 10, 2010

You can see what a difference a day can make. I think the spiderling in the top left must have hatched earlier than the rest of the bunch and has probably experienced its first molt already. You can see that its legs are now more clearly segmented and its body sections look more developed. This older one was also quite energetic and was able to walk with ease, whereas the larva/1st instars were immobile.
