Mexican chile beetles - Stegobium paniceum

Mexican chile beetles - Stegobium paniceum
Delta, British Columbia, Canada
January 3, 2010
Size: under 3 mm.
I found a bunch of these beetles in a jar of dried chile pasilla and chile ancho from Mexico. This one was dead; the live ones are very active and it was impossible to get a clear photo.

There were quite a few live larvae in with them. (I'll add a larva on the next ID page.)

I found some in the same place a year ago last August; those were only adults, and mated while I had them. I didn't see any larvae that time.

Thanks! I just added a back view, upper part only. I'll try and get another shot of the whole beetle.

Edit: I've added a full-body shot.
