Female laying eggs - Lestes australis - Female

This female chose a withered stalk and leaf of water iris a few inches above the pond water level, and slightly protected by the bend of the leaf above to lay her eggs. Here she is flexing her abdomen before "curling up" to stick her ovipositor into the plant.
