Syrphinae
Subfamily Syrphinae has the only free-range larvae. The other subfamilies live in things (mud, water, ant nests, rotting logs, ...) rather than on plants.

It has the general look
of a syrphid larva--down to the two little "tailpipes" on the end:
Can't say for certain that's what it is, though...
