I'm NOT an expert...
...but this might be a Gall Midge larva (Cecidomyiidae). Do you have any recollection of the size?

I don't recall the size but given the lens that I used, it had to be under 5mm and probably more like 2mm. I did a little poking around the web and found that there are several species of gall midge which feed on mushrooms.

The 2nd linked photo in Dan's comment is one of mine, and I remember thinking "What a gorgeous color!" when I saw the little critter. This is the kind of thing that makes non-buggy people think I'm weird...
