Stink Bug? - Euschistus conspersus

Stink Bug? - Euschistus conspersus
Elkton, Douglas County, Oregon, USA
October 1, 2009
On blackberries. I tried coaxing it into other poses, but it fell off the leaf.

"Almost certainly E. conspersus" --D.B. Thomas
Moved from Euschistus.

conspersus, i guess
with half a skull chewed off, it's hard being cooperative

Moved from True Bugs.

That could easily explain why it fell.
It was probably dead or dying. I don't remember seeing any other bugs around. Any idea what would do such a thing?

"what would do such a thing?"
no idea... any appropriately sized bug muncher... a dumb shrew? or perhaps a really dumb shrew?
dental records might prove useful.
