taeniorhynchus - Ochlerotatus taeniorhynchus - Female
Vero Beach, Indian River County, Florida, USA
November 11, 2005
This is the most common "nuisance" mosquito in coastal Florida. It is a saltmarsh species, like dor*salis on the West Coast. It ranges up and down the Atlantic and Gulf Coasts, and has isolated inland distribution in some Western states. You can also find it on the West Coast from Southern California to points south.
Key ID features to separate this from Oc. solli*citans are the lack of a pale ring in the middle of the first hind tarsomere and the lack of a light median stripe on the abdominal terga.
It is evident from the photo that my legs appear hairy.
