Trichoniscidae
Hi Steve,
Probably
Hyloniscus
, most likely
Hyloniscus riparius
.
Size? If any chance, check to see if the eye is made up of one ocellus or three. Looks like one to me, but not enough detail. Colour also good for
Hyloniscus riparius
.
Cheers, Arp

Hyloniscus riparius
Hi Steve, thanks for the extra image, and yes - it's helpful. This rules out the similar looking animals in the genus
Trichoniscus
and
Cordioniscus stebbingi
. Of all Trichoniscidae recorded in the USA only
Hyloniscus riparius
fits the bill, and it has been recorded for New York at least since 1957.
Theoretically other imports can't be ruled out 100% (such as other
Hyloniscus
or maybe
Oritoniscus (flavus?)
or something else), but this one really, really looks like the European
H. riparius
in all visible details. So, for all but 100% confirmation through male sexual characters it's fair to assume it's the one species well known from the area for decades.
Cheers! Arp
