great addition to the Guide!
And this little beetle really does live up to
ornatus
, compared to most of Tribe Scymnini. Thank you for adding it here!

Thanks!
I have no doubt as to this little LB's ID and it really is quite an "ornate" small scymnine. I had a good long look at it and I had my Gordon keys with me and it fits in every way, including the antennal segments. However, I am now questioning the ID of the other specimen I have posted here from New Brunswick (see
). It was ID'd by Dr Reginald P. Webster,an acknowledged authority on beetles and subsequently photographed by me last winter, so I did not question his ID at the time. However, I am aware that he Id'd it using the key from Downie and Arnett, as he did not have access to Gordon. While colour alone is not a reliable character in this case, I am starting to wonder whether his specimen is actually Nephus georgei, which is known from NF, QC and AB, so should be found here in the Maritimes (but has not yet been officially recorded). The size I gave could easily have been out by 0.1 mm, so that would put it in N georgei's range as well. I did not count the antennal segments. N georgei is supposed to have 10, while Nephaspis would have 11. I wish I had access to his specimen again so I could check and be sure, but he lives a long ways from here. I will try to contact him and check this out further...

wrong genus
Clearly this was a mistake/typo, when under Nephaspis. I found no evidence that
ornatus
was ever under that genus.
