2mm seedhead beetle - Melanophthalma

2mm seedhead beetle - Melanophthalma
Nashua, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire, USA
November 12, 2005
Size: 2 mm
I crumbled the dry seedheads of two types of plants in a vacant lot, finding (apparently) the same species of tiny beetle in each. It looks very similar to ones that have come to my UV lights earlier in the year.

Millimeter marks are visible through the bottom of the clear plastic deli container that the beetle is in.

No luck googling
I saw no image resembling these in google image searches for seed beetle, seed-head beetle, seedhead beetle, flower seed beetle, or grain beetle! Apparently this beetle is of no economic importance.
