Small dung beetle - Canthidium macclevei

Small dung beetle - Canthidium macclevei
Pena Blanca Lake, Santa Cruz County, Arizona, USA

Nice!
I collected a specimen from the base of Madera Canyon. To my knowledge, all other AZ specimens are from the Pena Blanca Lake area.

Canthidium macclevei is becomming more "common"
In the past two years we have caught several specimens (18 total) near areas where we have collected for many years without seeing the species. Perhaps in the past it was mistaken for Pseudocanthon perplexus and not collected. They are of similar size & color, but the expanded tibiae in Canthidium are visible even with the naked eye when they walk on a black light sheet. None in dung traps yet, even though they have been taken that way in Mexico.

Good to know another spot!
Thanks, Blaine!
