Bee Killer or Bee-Like Robber? - Laphria grossa

Bee Killer or Bee-Like Robber? - Laphria grossa
Martha's Vineyard, Dukes County, Massachusetts, USA
August 13, 2006
I'm a bit confused because this one has a honey bee. Species would be appreciated.

Moved
Moved from Laphria virginica.

Size
The prey is a honey bee worker (Apis mellifera), which average 12-16 mm. Based on that size reference, this Laphria is huge. I wonder if it might be a dark-abdomened female Laphria grossa.

Moved
Moved from Laphria flavicollis.

No flavicollis in August in MA. Appears to be virginica.

Moved from ID Request.

Laphria, maybe Laphria flavicollis
