Author of the name: Chamberlin & Ivie. Year first published: 1941.
Identification
2 subspecies - both have no median longitudinal band on the black sternum. - I don't know if these two are still considered subspecies.
- alpina - Coxae never black.
- grandiosa - More variable than the others.

Range
2 subspecies
- alpina- Rocky Mountains - Rocky Mountain area of Saskatchewan, North Dakota, Oklahoma, to British Columbia, Oregon and south to Chihuahua.
- grandiosa - Pacific - British Columbia to California.
Season
2 subspecies
- alpina- June to August
- grandiosa - March to October.
