Autum colors - Araneus marmoreus

Autum colors - Araneus marmoreus
Homewood, Jefferson County, Alabama, USA
November 11, 2005
Size: 3/4 inch
Ths closest that I can find in the images on this site is a red widow. The pumpkin spider is close but I don't think it is a match. Could we have a rare specimin here? And, is that a fang up front pointing to the twig?

Yes,
that is a fang...and I am getting pretty jealous of all these fantastic orange spiders I keep seeing. I hope to find one for myself someday!

OMG! Terry I think I have its mate!
Your not going to believe this but I live in Griffin Ga and I just found one this morning and captured it! Its the EXACT same color but a lot smaller! still gorgeous though!. I had no idea what it was so I started scanning the web and I came upon your picture! That is totally awesome! Yours is scary! It's so HUGE!! Sorry I don't have a digital camera so I can't send you a photo of mine but just thought you might want to know they must be more popular than we realized. I was suprised too! Im 39 and its the first time in my life I have ever come across anything like it! Happy hunting!
