Callosamia securifera - male

Callosamia securifera - Male
Auburn, Lee County, Alabama, USA
March 13, 1997
Attracted to virgin female (~9:15 am cst)

Often times between 8:00-10:00 am, several dozen males can be observed swarming a single caged virgin female. Unlike C. angulifera and C. promethea, males of C. securifera are a bit more wary and fairly evasive on the wing.

NOTE: This species is subject to some seasonal variation. Typically, the Spring forms are lighter and brighter and the summer generations are usually darker and/or more washed out in appearance.
