Toxomerus - Toxomerus marginatus - male - female

Toxomerus - Toxomerus marginatus - Male Female
Waddell Creek, Big Basin Redwoods State Park, Santa Cruz County, California, USA
August 23, 2009
Mating pair. Note the sexual dimorphism in relative size and separation of the eyes (male on top, female on bottom).

I'm pretty sure these are Toxomerus marginatus, based on other photos and Martin's simplified key.

Photographed in riparian corridor of Waddell Creek, near mouth of creek and a few hundred yards from the Pacific Ocean.

Moved
Moved from Syrphid Flies.

Good eye. Toxomerus marginatus
Male is lightly marked, but the dot at the far end of the abdomen is all it takes to ID him.

Thanks for the Confirmation Ron
I'll pay more attention to that dot in the future. I was mainly going by the yellowish "margin" along the dorsal edge of the abdomen, the overall pattern of the abdominal markings, and the yellow legs.
