unknown CA bug emerges from larvae - Platypedia Menlo Park, San Mateo County, California, USA March 7, 2010 Size: 2 cm body
Bug emerging from larvae that was found on a prickly pear cactus. I suspect based on its final form that it was a cicada, but I didn't know cicada were in California. It was also about half the size of any cicada that I've seen on the east coast. Plus, I've never heard cicadas in the trees around here.
